a small success!

its been a week and i am proud to say that in this week i have managed to not fall once. this is my small success for the week! something is better than nothing.. ahahaha.

i do have to say that both monday and wednesday at indoors i didn’t skate the hardest that i could have. at the same time i did step out of my current comfort zone and skated with the top group. i know i’m fast enough to always skate in this group but my lack of confidence on the floor is limitating me to skating with the slower group.

skating with the slower group is causing some problems for me because while skating with the slower group is good and it still gets fast enough where i need to put in effort to do the drills… i find that the drill never gets done. Maybe the group is still learning and doesn’t understand the drill or they just dont care and want a pissing contest instead. I am a huge believer or doing a drill how it is made! coaches dont make drills just for the hell of it and there is a point, skill, and technique to learn. this will never happen unless skaters slow down and pay attention to what is ment to be done and not to always go fast and kill everyone hanging off the back. This causes me to get very frustrated and want to stop skating.

on a positive note..i leave for lack placid in new york state in just one day! i’m really excited and know that larry, herb and i will have a great time.

i will post all about that when i get home… and believe me there will be lots of pictures!

And another one bites the dust.

since my last post… i have not been able to let my body heal from all the falls.  i 100% have never in almost 10 years of skating fallen this many times.

Wednesday night at indoors was followed by 2 more falls but in the relay and both caused by someone pushing me a little out of control. No worries really.. things happen and i understand that. i think i was more frustrated with the fact that i have not been able to get through a practice as of late without being on the floor at some point.

I would like to think that tonight will be different but i know that will not happen. even though tonight of all nights i should really try to take care of my body. Why tonight of all nights? well this would be because on my first morning doing LT i also fell and really hurt my knees and elbows. :s My right knee more than the left but instead of taking it slow and making sure i dont fall… i will skate like normal and this nasty looking bruise on my kneecap is like a big red and white target just waiting to ram into the floor at scooters. lol

we will see what tonight brings! this blog is very quickly becoming the blog of the fallen skater.

Happy holidays!

My left knee needs a break.

I cant remember the last time i have fallen this much. i understand its indoors and scooters..etc but i have fallen myself or been taken out almost every practice. my left knee is currently a big mess, i wont be wearing any dresses soon!

last nights practice was almost the same as sundays. same warm up..the speed was faster this time but i still felt very comfortable while skating. I know i am very able to lap the pack with the faster skaters but there is a good chance i would fall, plus i feel i benefit more from skating a little slower where i can work on my tech then sprint and fall apart! besides its a WARM UP..theres no need for all that, i’ll just end up hurting myself!

After we did the same passing drill, going from the back to the front of the pack using two different efforts (this drill was done twice). I have to say this is not my favourite drill… being that i am still very uncomfortable in the corners and have a hard time trusting my skates and other skaters around me, the drill itself is not hard for me.  A lot of people fell tonight…me included but both because a skater fell in front of me.. one being my other brother andrew.

No ice tonight, its sad but the weather is not the best and i can always go on Thursday.. also if the weather is not bad! I finally have the LT blades so i will be at gage park for the weekend getting ready for my trip in 2 weeks!

Indoors it is..

I was a little sad this morning when instead of going on Long track with Larry, i was going to indoors. This was due to the fack that i needed to pick up some blades from Sigrid and that ment LT was a no go.

Today we did the same warm up drill that we’ve done for the past 3 skates. i feel more and more comfortable with skating a long time and skating with better tech when doing so. However i was skated to go on a few sprints to lap the pack…. knowing that i am not comfortable at all in the corners still i declined all but one. lol the result of the was skating one lap then ending up in the wall but still in a funny crossover postition. my knee looks even worse now… with a large area of skin missing, plus the bursing from the last practice i fell twice.

Later we did a passing drill on the outside of the pack, followed by a two person relay. I didn’t stick around for the dryland today which i know i should have but at this point in time i had a lot of other things to get ready for work tomorrow.

And the winner of the Green jersey is….

Every practice Aaron gives a green jersey out to one skater who either had the fastest lap, made the best improvement, etc. Same idea as the yellow jersey in cycling. So on Wednesday i was given the green jersey to wear all night, this is only because monday night we didn’t do the fastest lap drill, therefore there was no skater to get the jersey based on time. I got it mostly as a joke because lately i have come to practice more that my older brother and secondly because i fell twice on monday… one of which i almost went head first into the wall.

Practice was a lot of what we had done on monday.. with a few variations. I managed not to fall and had a good practice overall.

Long track this weekend… should be cold and interesting on the worlds only five sided oval in the world!

skating with a smile!

I’m skating indoors this winter.. along with ice but to most its a shock.. considering that i have never been a fan of it. At this point i am so used to going into a corner and knowing there will be an edge there to support me… that honestly the corners scare me. As time is going on i feel a little more comfortable.. lol key word is a little. If you were at practice you saw that i am still not even close to being ok by the number on times i was on my.. ass.lol

With that all said…. last night was indoors and i had a really great time! i really REALLY enjoyed the drills..even when i was on the ground twice. i’m having a lot of fun and for me on indoors that’s saying a lot! My favourite drill of the night was the “Guy” drill. Its a start drill that works on getting into a favourable position in the pack within the first corner..that will set the “guy” up to follow a strong skater and not lead the race. Its a fun drill and i don’t know why but somehow i have a pretty good start indoors. All and all its a good drill for me… not too long.. something i’m better at right now… and interactive!

Tonight was Short track with larry in brampton. Overall not a hard practice, focusing on skating long with really good tech while keeping an eye out for breaks, which at least one skates needed to bridge. i skated well and stayed in for all the laps but i noticed that i am bringing over bad habits i have for indoors to ice! eeeeek. takes me a few laps in warm up to get used to my extreme offset etc. I hope that with more time on both this year… i will be able to break all my bad habits and make a smooth transition from ice to inline every few days.

Long track starts on Saturday… i’m pretty excited about it and even more excited about my trip to lake placid on Dec 27th!:D

Second round!

As the title says..this is my second time around on Word Press. Last year i attempted, unsuccessfully to make and write on a blog but due to lack of time and lets say lack of interest personally only made a handful of post. Since then i have forgotten about it all together until seeing it on a friends page. Obviously with almost a year since my last post or even login…i have no idea what my password is!

This time around i am making a whole hearted effort to keeping up with my blogs. I doubt that if i fail with this blog..there will not be a third round!

Let the blogs begin!
